Welcome to VolunVerse (“VolunVerse,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the VolunVerse website, mobile application, and related services, features, content, maps, profiles, social features, and tools (collectively, the “Service”).
By creating an account, logging in, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of a school, nonprofit, business, team, or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least the minimum age required by applicable law to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the permission and involvement of a parent or legal guardian.
By using the Service, you represent and warrant that:
- the information you provide is accurate and current;
- you are legally allowed to use the Service; and
- your use of the Service does not violate any applicable law or regulation.
2. Description of the Service
VolunVerse is a platform designed to help users discover, connect with, participate in, organize, track, or share volunteer opportunities, community service activities, profiles, and related social/community interactions.
Features may include, without limitation:
- user accounts and profiles;
- usernames, initials-based avatars, and profile displays;
- map-based discovery and location-based features;
- friend, invite, or connection features;
- contact-based invite tools, if enabled;
- volunteer opportunity listings and event details;
- volunteer hour tracking or related recordkeeping, if enabled;
- notifications, account messages, or service alerts;
- moderation, fraud prevention, trust, safety, and abuse-detection systems.
We may add, change, remove, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
3. Account Registration and Security
To use certain features, you may be required to create an account.
You agree to:
- provide true, accurate, and complete information;
- keep your login credentials secure and confidential;
- update your information when necessary;
- notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account unless prohibited by law.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts that are false, misleading, inactive, abusive, fraudulent, or in violation of these Terms.
4. Usernames, Profiles, and Identity
You may choose a username and create a profile. Your profile may display information such as your username, initial-based avatar, activity, school or organization affiliation, volunteer history, or other information you choose to provide.
You may not:
- impersonate another person, school, organization, or entity;
- use a deceptive, offensive, or infringing username;
- misrepresent your identity, affiliations, volunteer activity, or achievements;
- use someone else’s information, likeness, or content without permission.
We reserve the right to remove, reclaim, edit, or restrict usernames or profile content that violate these Terms.
5. Permissions and Device Features
To provide certain features, VolunVerse may request access to device features or data, including:
- location services;
- contacts or address book access;
- notifications;
- camera or photos, if enabled;
- browser storage, local storage, cookies, or similar technologies;
- device and network information necessary for security and operation.
You can typically manage permissions in your device or browser settings. Some features may not work properly if permissions are denied.
6. Location-Based Features
VolunVerse may use approximate or precise location information to:
- show nearby volunteer opportunities, events, or users;
- provide maps, routes, or location-based search results;
- improve relevance and user experience;
- support safety, integrity, moderation, or fraud-prevention efforts.
You understand and agree that:
- location data may not always be accurate, complete, or current;
- map content, routes, and nearby results are provided for convenience only;
- you are solely responsible for evaluating the safety, legitimacy, and suitability of any location, event, opportunity, or interaction.
VolunVerse is not an emergency service and should not be relied upon for emergency response or exact navigation.
7. Contacts and Invites
If you choose to grant access to your contacts, VolunVerse may use that information to help you:
- find people you know;
- invite friends or classmates to the Service;
- suggest potential connections.
By using contact-based features, you represent that you have the right to use that information for that purpose.
You may not use invite or contact features to:
- spam users or non-users;
- collect personal data for unrelated purposes;
- send misleading, abusive, or unwanted invitations;
- misuse another person’s contact information.
We may limit or disable invite features to prevent abuse.
8. Volunteer Opportunities and Third-Party Listings
VolunVerse may display opportunities, events, organizations, schools, nonprofits, businesses, sponsors, or community listings provided by third parties.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, VolunVerse does not control, endorse, verify, guarantee, or assume responsibility for third-party listings, events, organizations, or hosts.
You understand and agree that:
- participation in any opportunity is at your own risk;
- you are responsible for independently verifying details, legitimacy, safety, timing, and requirements;
- volunteer-hour approval, school credit, signatures, or acceptance may depend entirely on third-party rules outside our control.
We are not responsible for disputes between users and third parties.
9. User Content
You may be able to submit, upload, post, publish, or otherwise share content through the Service, including:
- profile details;
- usernames and profile displays;
- posts, comments, captions, or messages, if enabled;
- event or opportunity details;
- photos, documents, or proof of activity, if enabled;
- volunteer-hour records, reflections, or verifications, if enabled.
You retain ownership of content you own. However, by submitting content to the Service, you grant VolunVerse a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, modify for formatting, display, distribute, and use that content as necessary to operate, improve, secure, moderate, and provide the Service.
You represent and warrant that:
- you own the content or have the right to share it;
- the content does not violate any law or third-party rights;
- the content is not false, misleading, or fraudulent.
10. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- violate any law or regulation;
- impersonate any person or entity;
- create fake accounts or misrepresent your identity;
- submit false volunteer records, forged approvals, or misleading claims;
- harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, or abuse others;
- post defamatory, hateful, obscene, or unlawful content;
- upload malicious code, malware, bots, or harmful files;
- attempt unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service;
- scrape, copy, or harvest user or platform data without authorization;
- use the Service for spam, scams, phishing, or unauthorized advertising;
- misuse maps, location tools, contacts, or social features;
- engage in conduct that could harm minors, schools, nonprofits, or the community.
We may investigate suspected violations and take action, including content removal, feature restrictions, account suspension, account termination, and reporting to authorities or impacted parties where appropriate.
11. Volunteer Hours, Records, and Accuracy
If the Service allows logging, sharing, displaying, or verifying volunteer hours or service records, you acknowledge that:
- you are solely responsible for the truth and accuracy of what you submit;
- VolunVerse does not guarantee that any service activity qualifies for school, scholarship, legal, nonprofit, or program requirements;
- acceptance of volunteer records by a school, nonprofit, employer, or program is determined by that third party, not VolunVerse;
- we may review, flag, delay, restrict, or remove suspicious or unverifiable entries.
Fraudulent activity may result in account suspension or termination.
12. Moderation and Enforcement
We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to monitor, review, moderate, remove, restrict, or refuse any content, profile, listing, invite, or activity for any reason, including to:
- enforce these Terms;
- comply with applicable law;
- protect users and third parties;
- maintain safety, trust, and platform integrity;
- reduce abuse, fraud, and misuse.
Moderation may be automated, manual, or both.
13. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, share, store, and protect information.
14. Safety and Personal Responsibility
VolunVerse provides a platform and tools, but does not supervise all users, organizations, locations, or real-world interactions.
You are solely responsible for:
- deciding whether to participate in any opportunity or event;
- evaluating safety, legitimacy, and appropriateness;
- protecting your personal safety, belongings, and privacy;
- complying with all applicable laws, rules, and instructions.
Always use good judgment when interacting with others, meeting people, or sharing personal information.
15. Third-Party Services and Maps
The Service may use third-party providers for maps, hosting, analytics, databases, authentication, notifications, communications, and other infrastructure.
These third-party tools may have their own terms and privacy policies. VolunVerse is not responsible for third-party systems, outages, errors, inaccuracies, or content.
Map data and related geographic content may be subject to third-party attribution and license requirements.
16. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, software, text, graphics, logos, branding, layout, and overall look and feel, is owned by or licensed to VolunVerse and is protected by intellectual property laws.
Except as expressly allowed, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, decompile, create derivative works from, or exploit any part of the Service without prior written permission.
17. Feedback
If you submit suggestions, ideas, feedback, feature requests, or bug reports, you grant us the right to use them without restriction or compensation to you.
18. Availability and Changes
We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
The Service may experience downtime, delays, bugs, inaccuracies, or maintenance interruptions. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
19. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.”
VOLUNVERSE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AND AVAILABILITY.
WE DO NOT GUARANTEE:
- the accuracy of listings, maps, locations, or user content;
- the legitimacy or quality of any third-party opportunity or participant;
- acceptance of any volunteer activity by any school or organization;
- uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service.
20. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VOLUNVERSE AND ITS FOUNDERS, OWNERS, DEVELOPERS, AFFILIATES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, LICENSORS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, GOODWILL, OR OPPORTUNITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, VOLUNVERSE’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF:
- THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO VOLUNVERSE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM; OR
- US $100.
21. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless VolunVerse and its affiliates, founders, owners, developers, officers, directors, employees, licensors, contractors, agents, and partners from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, judgments, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to:
- your use of the Service;
- your content;
- your violation of these Terms;
- your violation of any law or third-party rights;
- your interactions with third parties or participation in volunteer activities;
- your fraudulent, misleading, or unlawful conduct.
22. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend, restrict, disable, or terminate your account or access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, created risk, or misused the Service.
You may stop using the Service at any time.
23. Data Retention
We may retain account information, activity logs, moderation records, communications, volunteer-related records, device data, and other information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- provide the Service;
- comply with law;
- resolve disputes;
- enforce agreements;
- maintain security, integrity, and fraud prevention.
Deletion of an account may not immediately remove all backup, archived, or legally required records.
24. Electronic Communications
By using the Service, you consent to receive electronic communications from us, including service announcements, account notices, security alerts, legal notices, and operational messages.
25. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms become effective when posted unless otherwise stated.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
26. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
27. Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting us.
If not resolved informally, the dispute shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Santa Cruz County, California, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
28. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
29. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any other policies expressly incorporated by reference, form the entire agreement between you and VolunVerse regarding the Service.
